Lies, All Lies

So you think you know people?
You must know it all.
You must live inside our heads.
Who knows love? Who knows greed?
Who knows lies and deceit?
I ask again: who knows it all?
You merely judge.
Judge a book by its cover,
by the pictures on the front.
Judge a man who will not look you in the eyes
People aren’t all good, nor all bad.
Can’t you see?
But everyone is always in disguise.
Dress to kill; kill to win;
Win to have joy in the end.
Dressing up is like another fad.
But not like cards or other games,
Dressing up is part of life.
It hides the bad; it makes us blind.
Lies, all lies come pouring in
From all sides.
It’s a trap to say the least.
But let it go, let it go;
They want to get to you, you know.
They’ll try hard,
And to let them is to lose.
Everyone is wearing masks.
To fit in.
Is this Halloween or what?
I guess I’m the one dressed up,
When I’m just trying to be me.
Or am I another monster collecting candy in the streets?
Dress to kill; kill to win;
Win to have joy in the end.
Dressing up is like another fad.
But not like cards or other games,
Dressing up is part of life.
It hides the bad; it makes us blind.
It’s hard to tell,
Hard to judge right from wrong,
Good from bad,
Saints from sinners.
But do not try
To see through me
When we can barely see through ourselves.
I doubt if truth is something you will ever see…

Heart to heart by the hearth
Now the truth comes pouring out
Embers light your hot eyes
While I don’t make a sound
And you stare, and you stare
And ask what is wrong with me
All the love all the warmth
Goes right out the chimney
It’s the end of the year
And the days went quickly by
Full of troublesome times
Yet we both survived
So take a breath, take a breath
And close those heavy lids
Give yourself some reprieve
And some time to really live
Don’t worry, hon, you will get your gift soon
Silver and blue to uplift your gray mood
Now its back to the gray
Forget all about the blue
On the most loving day
When I’ll be seeing you soon
Yet you cry, yet you cry
As you collapse into my arms
I ask why, I ask why
And you say I’ve done no harm
Don’t worry, hon, you will get your gift soon
Silver and blue to uplift your gray mood
